Hi Friends
We are an international Family who recently moved from USA to Germany in 2022.
I grew up in Germany, but lived since teenhood in the States. I studied Cultural Anthropology and Tourism Management in Colorado and volunteered wherever I could. I once traveled to Tanzania and Uganda to volunteer as a preschool teacher for a few months.
I became a mom in 2017 and left my job as a travel agent. I suffered postpartum depression and in order to help me get out of the house, I started a charity to help families in low income households get the baby items and the support they needed. Aside from creating and birthing humans, this charity was a big accomplishment in my life.
In 2020, when Covid-19 spread across the globe, and Colorado was threatened by multiple wild fires, we realized we needed a change for our family and made the decision to move to Germany.
This decision wasn’t made overnight. We made a pro and con list about living in Europe and talked about the impacts each would have on our family. We talked about job changes, learning the language, and moving away from family. For two years, we knew we were going to move to Germany. But the moment we started thinking about it, we prepared our family and friends about this move and started to declutter the house.
Decluttering the house really helped later on with selling/ giving away our stuff and having a better oversight of all the things we wanted to pack to take with us to our new home in Europe.
Once we put the house on the market, everything went so much faster than expected. The container with our belongings was picked up, the house was sold, we moved into my mother’s basement and in May of 2022, we flew to Germany. With 9 suitcases, two pets, two toddlers and a load of paperwork. It was stressful, yet well planned through.
Now that we are in Germany, we are exploring the country and making new memories as the kids are learning the language and making new friends.
